Better methodology for entering SQL for Dataset within Data Model for BIP reports

Business Case:

Our BIP reports require that large SQL scripts must be written to accomplish our reporting requirements since the "canned" reports are woefully insufficient.

When you open the Dataset within the DataModel there is a TINY square box in which to insert SQL code.

Our current methodology is to copy the SQL code out of that box, paste it into a proper code editor and then cut and paste the code back to that TINY box.

This is both inefficient and prone to errors.

The SQL box is completely unusable in it's current form.
