FDI OACS Classic: dynamically passing parameter for drill

Hello Experts,

We are working on a use case in Oracle Analytics Cloud – Classic (Answers) and looking for guidance on the following scenario.

Use Case Summary:

  • A single master financial report built in OACS Classic (not DV).
  • The report displays multiple Actual KPIs side-by-side for different periods, for example:
    • Current Period
    • Previous 1–3 Periods
    • YTD
  • Period logic in the master report is handled using presentation variables driven by hidden prompts.
  • Requirement is to have only ONE common drill (detail) report, not multiple drill reports with hard-coded period filters.

Problem Statement: When defining the drill using Action Link → Navigate to BI Content, we are unable to find a supported way in OACS Classic to:

  • Pass the suitable presentation variable value from the master report to the drill report as parameter dynamically based on which KPI is clicked in master report. Dynamically identify which Actual KPI / period column was clicked (Current, Prior, YTD, etc.) so that the drill report can automatically apply the correct period filter.

Because of this apparent limitation, the drill report cannot dynamically understand the context of the clicked KPI and hence cannot show accurate period-specific details, instead of creating multiple hard-coded drill reports.

Key Question: Is there any supported or recommended approach in OACS Classic / OBIEE Answers to:

  • Pass presentation variables (or an equivalent context indicator) through Action Links as dynamic parameter, or
  • Capture which KPI / period column was clicked and dynamically translate that into a filter condition for a single drill report?

Any insights, workarounds (supported), or design patterns for handling such dynamic period-based drilling in OACS Classic would be highly appreciated.

Additional info: This is custom PNL report built using FDI subject area – all OOTB fields.

  1. Master Report is built using GL Profitability Subject Area OOTB Fields
  2. Drill report is built using Configurable Account Analysis (CAA) subject area OOTB Fields

Thank you in advance for your inputs. Happy New Year 2026 !

Thanks & Regards,
