We have a custom report and when trying to run the report there are an error displayed

We customized the Purchase Order Notification report by modifying its data model. After running the report, everything worked correctly. However, when we tried to add a new field to the RTF template and ran the report again, we encountered the following error:

Error displayed:
“The report cannot be rendered because of an error, please contact the administrator.

This is a classic Oracle BI Publisher RTF template error. The 1>=1 error is deceptively cryptic but points to a specific set of common causes.
What "1>=1" actually means it isn't a logic condition, it's a corrupted or malformed XSL/FO expression that BI Publisher generates when it can't parse a field or conditional tag in your RTF template correctly. It essentially means the template engine hit something it couldn't interpret and substituted a broken expression.
One of the most common causes is with corrupted field insertion when a typed or pasted new field tag, the field may look correct visually but contain hidden formatting breaks inside the tag.
To try to fix this , go to Insert → Field → MergeField — never type <?...?> tags directly.
Or select the field, delete it completely, then re-insert using Add-in Template Builder
Check that your field doesn't have a line break or paragraph mark hidden inside it

Hi Brendan ,

Thank you for your response. However, the issue is that even when we make a very minor change to the RTF template, we still encounter the same error.

For example, we simply added an “e” at the end of the word “approval” to test whether the change in the RTF template would be reflected. After making this small update and running the report again, we received the same error mentioned earlier:

“The report cannot be rendered because of an error, please contact the administrator.”

and we customized the data model and initially tested the report using the original RTF template without making any changes, and it ran successfully.

However, when we try to make even a very small modification to the RTF template—such as adding a single letter (e.g., an “e”) on the title, as mentioned above—and then upload the updated template, we encounter the error.

Maybe something if happening to the RTF version as part of opening, saving and uploading it. When saving it in Word make sure you are saving as Rich Text Format (.rtf) and ensure the format stays as Word 97-2003 RTF, and not the newer fomats. Also check the default language being used in Word and make sure it is set to English US

Something to consider is to use LibreOffice to see if you get the same error or not

Thanks for confirming. Can you delete the customized verion from /Custom folder, follow the steps again to customize the report.

Make a change in template and add it as a new template (instead of replacing existing). And check if both the templates are failing or only the new one?

I made the change while ensuring that the file remained in .rtf format; however, the error still persists. I also tested uploading the RTF template without making any modifications, and the report executed successfully.

However, as soon as even a minor change is made to the template, the error reappears.

The issue is that it has already been customized, and I cannot delete it, as doing so would cause other customizations to be lost.

See above where it is mentioned to upload it as a new doc and not updating an existing one and Clear the Cache to avoid any possible conflicts. Also have a look at Try opening and editing the RTF on the same machine that was originally used to create it.

So, you mean the report is already customized and that customized version is working fine? Now if you try to add something in the customized RTF, it is failing?

If yes, can you try to use BI plugin to see if the RTF after change is not going into error with the XML?
