Idea / Enhancement Request
Oracle Fusion Data Intelligence currently provides strong Projects / PPM analytics for financial project reporting, including project costs, budgets, forecasts, commitments, billing, invoices, revenue, labor, and funding. However, many organizations also execute non-traditional projects such as initiatives, innovation programs, R&D efforts, transformation projects, proof-of-concepts, and internal strategic initiatives.
These types of projects are often not measured only by cost, revenue, billing, or capitalization. They are measured by execution progress, milestones, deliverables, backlog completion, sprint outcomes, risks, issues, decisions, resource participation, adoption, and business value delivered.
Today, Project Execution Management subject areas are not available as first-class subject areas in FDI. This creates a major gap for organizations that want to use FDI as the enterprise analytics platform for both financial project performance and operational project execution.
We used to have project execution subject areas in Agile PLM/Agile BI
Business Problem
In past Agile BI and innovation-focused projects, much of the meaningful activity happens at the execution layer rather than the financial transaction layer.
Examples include:
- BI dashboard delivery milestones
- Sprint planning and sprint completion
- Product backlog items and work items
- MVP scope and release tracking
- Innovation and R&D project gates
- Proof-of-concept outcomes
- Project issues, risks, and decisions
- Resource assignments and team capacity
- Baseline versus current plan changes
- Business adoption and readiness milestones
- Operational deliverables that may not carry direct cost or revenue
These are critical for PMOs, project managers, product owners, analytics leaders, and executives. However, because these execution elements may not have direct financial transactions, they are difficult to analyze using the currently delivered FDI Projects / PPM subject areas alone.
As a result, customers must rely on OTBI, custom extracts, external semantic models, spreadsheets, or separate reporting platforms to track project execution health. This creates duplicate reporting, manual reconciliation, and a fragmented view of project performance.
Requested Enhancement
Please add Project Execution Management subject areas to Oracle Fusion Data Intelligence so customers can report on project execution data alongside project financial data.
The requested enhancement should include delivered FDI subject areas for:
- Project planning
- Project tasks and milestones
- Project work items
- Project resources
- Project issues and risks
- Change management
- Requirements
- Baseline versions
- Deliverables
- Operational project status
- Agile / iterative delivery tracking where applicable
FDI should allow customers to combine execution data with existing Project Financial Management data such as project costs, budgets, forecasts, commitments, invoices, revenue, and funding.
Why This Matters
For innovation, R&D, and transformation projects, the question is not only, “How much did we spend?” The more important questions are often:
- Are we delivering the planned outcomes?
- Are milestones and releases on track?
- What work items or deliverables are delayed?
- What issues or risks are blocking execution?
- Are resources aligned to the highest-priority initiatives?
- How has scope changed from the original baseline?
- Are innovation and R&D efforts progressing through the intended gates?
- Are BI and analytics projects moving from idea to MVP to adoption?
Without Project Execution subject areas in FDI, customers cannot easily answer these questions within the same enterprise analytics platform where they analyze project financials.
Business Value
Adding Project Execution subject areas to FDI would help customers:
- Track innovation, R&D, and transformation projects more effectively.
- Connect operational execution progress with financial project performance.
- Reduce dependency on custom OTBI reports, spreadsheets, and external data models.
- Enable executive dashboards for end-to-end project health.
- Improve visibility into milestones, risks, issues, scope changes, and deliverables.
- Support PMO, IT, analytics, and innovation teams with a single source of truth.
- Increase adoption of FDI as the strategic enterprise analytics platform for Oracle Fusion Cloud.
Expected Outcome
FDI should support a complete view of project performance: not just project financials, but also project execution health.
This would be especially valuable for organizations running Agile BI programs, innovation initiatives, R&D projects, internal transformation efforts, and other strategic projects where progress is measured through milestones, deliverables, work items, risks, and outcomes rather than only financial transactions.
