Resource material on combining FDI subject area data with other Oracle data

Question

Looking for resource material on best practices when combining FDI subject area data with Oracle data (not in any subject area) to create workbooks.  Likely we'll use a query to pull the needed Oracle data points and save them in a table.  Is there material we can review on how best to make this combining of data sources work?

I suppose it depends on the intended usage. A fast solution would be to create a dataset (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHwxwfK5Fvo). A more permanent solution would be to extend the semantic model (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgobEnDt1O0).
