The Inspiration:
Schema Comparison & RPD Diff Utilities
In enterprise release management, deploying changes without a clear visual delta is a significant risk. Inspired by database schema comparison utilities, Git diff tools, and legacy OBIEE RPD comparison engines, FDI needs a native Bundle Compare tool. This will give release managers total visibility into exact changes before deploying an updated bundle over the a Target environment.
Problem Statement
Currently, when deploying or promoting a Semantic Model Bundle (or extended bundle) into a target environment, the bundle acts as a "black box." Release/Deployment managers and architects cannot easily inspect the exact line-by-line or object-by-object changes between the existing Master bundle and the incoming Extended bundle.
This lack of visibility leads to critical release management risks:
1 ) Accidental Drift & Regressions: Human error or unintended development tweaks (such as modified calculations, tweaked hierarchies, or altered security rules) can slip into a release bundle unnoticed.
2) Complex Debugging: When a bug appears after a bundle import, identifying whether it was caused by a deliberate feature update or an unintended side effect requires hours of manual investigation.
3) Audit & Sign-off Friction: Quality Assurance (QA) and Governance teams lack an automated way to verify that a bundle contains only the approved scope of work.
Proposed Solution: The "Bundle Inspector & Diff Engine"
Oracle should introduce a native Bundle Comparison Tool within the FDI Console that allows administrators to select two bundles (e.g., Master/Target Bundle vs. New Extended/Source Bundle) and generate a complete visual side-by-side comparison prior to import.

Granular Semantic Layer Comparison:
Columns & Tables: Highlight added, modified, or deleted logical and physical columns, tables, and joins.
Calculations & Expressions: Show exact syntax differences in measures, attributes, and logical formulas.
Hierarchies & Subject Areas: Detail changes in level definitions, parent-child relationships, display order, and subject area structure.
Security: Detect differences in data filters, object-level security.
External App: Highlight updates to RPD file, and extend to show everything as we do in the RPD compare utility. Show exact syntax differences in measures, attributes, and logical formulas.
Hierarchies & Subject Areas: Detail changes in level definitions, parent-child relationships, display order, and subject area structure.
Visual Delta UI:
A side-by-side visual viewer using standard diff color-coding (Green = Added, Yellow = Modified, Red = Deleted).
Filter views by asset type (e.g., "Show only semantic changes" or "Show only security changes" or "External App" changes).
Exportable Audit Report:
Generate an exportable change log (PDF/CSV/JSON) detailing all deltas for Change Advisory Board (CAB) sign-off and compliance archives.
