Hello Everyone !!!!

I Am new here!   I Am a Brazilian, 28 years old, i being using the Obiee about 4 years already. ( a intense use in a 60 years old company, and a LARGE database )

I have some question if someone cant help-me i would greatly apreciate! and sorry for the poor english, i speak better then i write.

Let's get started !

1° Why when a create a new view on a analysis ( a bar chart for exemple ) the obiee put every dimension on it ? Sometimes i have a complex analysis with a lot of dimensions and metrics, and this make a messy, so i need delete one by one ( this take a lot of time for me)

2° Cant i make some dashboard, and public on (internal/corporate) website, when the user cant make any filter? The dashboard is mine with my rules, and the user will make some filters, like data, region etc to see some KPI's...

3° When i make a complex dashboard, with a lot of calculate fields i need and every calculate sum(saw_0 by 1.2.3.4.5.6.7.......) this is painful ! rsrsrsr any suggestions ?

That it for now!

And again thanks so much for any help!

Best Regards, André Nogueira.

  • Hi André, welcome

For 1) I would say because that's what 95% of the users needs

OBIEE try to find out which column goes where and place the columns in the various components of a view (prompt, sections, axis etc.). For most of users this just require 2-3 operations to move things in a different way and it's done.

In your case I suspect it's because you make huge analysis with tons of columns, and then have most of the columns in the excluded box of the views.

Have a look at this link: https://greatobi.wordpress.com/2014/09/11/minimalist-design-for-the-criteria-tab/

Can maybe give you some hints on how to make things differently.

In general avoiding to exclude more than what is visible and if needed make 2 analysis gives better results because queries are smaller and only the required data is returned by each analysis.

For 2) not sure to get exactly what you mean: do you want to publish some of your dashboard to be used by other users, but they most not be allowed to change the dashboard other than set some filters? That's what dashboard prompts are for. You add all the required prompts on your dashboard and use the values of the prompts in your analysis as filters.

For 3) it sounds like you make lot of work in the analysis, while the best approach with OBIEE would be to push back business rules and calculated columns in the RPD when possible. So it's defined once and works all the time for every use you have. Of course it will never replace completely manual work when building analysis or you would be unemployed

    Hello Gianni!

First Things First! Thanks so much for your help!

1 - You got It! keep in mind, a 60 Years old company, 90% Excel users. Addicted to tables, and pivot tables. They want in "one click" every single information, with a ton o filters, but a make some drills and view selection to make more easy to run ( and my "obi wan master" are very skillful in mysql tuning to make a very fast select )

But your tip, dosent work here, when i need do some change, i will need edit every table, and all analysis one by one. keep in mind we are here 47 hard users, and just me to make  all the dashboards rsrsr

2- more or less, my problem is, some users mining data using obiee,  simple things like sale rate, and other kpis, for make more fast for them i make a lot of "agent" with tables, but in a agent dont have a lot of features. So i thinking make some "webservice/website" to put the dashboards, i know about the Mobile Aplication? something like that would help-me.

3 - Yeahp! Some metrics i make on the dash himself, some dash i use like 6 Cube or more, so you cant thing how muck are my problems when i need to make some calcule on the view... with ten or more columns...

A curiosity, i use Obiee like 4 years by now, i learn A LOT here, but is my first time participating, so again...Thanks!
