I am attempting to install the the BI Publisher Template Builder Add-in.  And, as usual, having no luck making the Publisher option appear on the Word menu.

Software versions on my PC:

MS Office 64-bit Version 2209 Build 16.0.15629.20256.

Java SE Development Kit version 8 update 311 (64 bit) 8.0.3110.11.

Microsoft .NET Runtime - 5.0.17.3123 (x64).

From https://www.oracle.com/middleware/technologies/analytics-publisher/downloads.html, I clicked the 'Oracle Analytics Publisher Desktop 6.4.0 for 64 bit Office on Windows' link. I ticked the checkbox to download V1031015-01.zip. This downloaded a file named Oracle_SSN_DLM_12011246.exe.

I executed that file. It produced a zip file named V1031015-01.zip. I unzipped that file, which produced a file named OracleAnalyticsPublisherDesktop-6.4.0-win64.exe, dated 8/4/2022 with a file size of 201MB. I right-clicked that file and selected 'Run as Administrator' to begin the installation.

I accepted the default destination folder c:\Program Files\Oracle\Oracle Analytics Publisher\Oracle Analytics Publisher Desktop. The installer went through the usual stuff - templates, samples, fonts, etc..., completing in less than 30 seconds.

MS Word opened with the Welcome to Oracle Analytics Publisher document. But the Publisher option is not present on the Word menu. It IS present in Excel.

I have already tried all of the usual fixes that have been suggested over the many years that this problem has existed. None of them are helping. Including...

* Word Add-ins: The add-in is not listed in any category on the main page. Active, Inactive, Disabled - it isn't there.

* It also is not shown as an available add-in under the COM Add-ins, nor any other category under the 'Manage' option.

* Ran 'Enable or Disable Template Builder' twice. The first time disabled it, the second time enabled it. Still no menu entry.

* Navigated to the destination folder and opened the DotNetInstallFiles folder. Based on the suggestion found at https://businessintelligenceblogs.wordpress.com/2018/03/10/bi-publisher-tab-is-not-visible-in-ms-word/, I executed setup.exe and selected the 'Repair' option. Upon completion, it reported 'TBAddInSetup64 has been successfully installed'. Still no BI Publisher on the Word menu or in the Add-Ins.

* In Word Add-ins, I went to COM Add-ins and clicked the Add button. Looked for TBAddin.vsto|vstolocal - does not exist. Tried ETBAddIn.vsto instead.   "Not a valid Office Add-in."

* I've tried every suggestion at https://www.oracleport.com/oracle-bi-publisher-tab-issue-in-ms-word/, including changing Trust Center settings.

And from https://peopletoolstechtips.com/install-bi-publisher-desktop/, File ... Options ... Customize Ribbon: BI Publisher is not available as shown in the screenshot

Any additional suggestions?

    Hi Liwen Chiu

Thanks for your help. I continued having issues with the TBAddInSetup64.msi I tried to uninstall but it told me I could uninstall a program not installed. I then tried repair and it told me the same thing.
After days of google searches I finally found mention of a Microsoft program that can uninstall programs that are not visable or findable, at the following link:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed-or-removed-cca7d1b6-65a9-3d98-426b-e9f927e1eb4d

It uninstalled the TBAddInSetup64 for me - I restarted my computer and ran the setup program in the C:\Program Files\Oracle\BI Publisher\BI Publisher Desktop\DotNetInstallFiles folder, and hey presto FINALLY when I opened word "Publisher" appeared in the ribbon.

This has been a terribly frustrating couple of weeks. Oracle blamed Microsoft and Microsoft blamed Oracle, but neither gave any solutions.

I hope I, like you Liwen, can be of some help for the next person that has this issue.

  • Hi Marcus, did it get resolved then?

  • I am having the same problems that Marcus had, how was this resolved?
I am in a project where I am creating the BI Publisher templates, and I do not have access to the tools I need.
The strange thing is that I do see Publisher in the ribbon for Excel.
Your assistance will be greatly appreciated

  • Hi, I'm getting the same issue that have tried with uninstall and reinstall, tried in Word's Add In to select BI Publisher and after clicking on OK nothing shows up in Word. My Excel is showing the BI Publisher icon correctly though. The BI Publisher Desktop build is 12.214.00.000 that I've installed. Would like to see this issue being resolved. Please kindly advise, thank you.

  • Hi @User_4P9ZT ,

I did some google search and this piece of info came up: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/60436881/bi-publisher-ribbon-not-appearing-in-office-365-64bit

    I then tried with

    "solved by unistalling (C:\Program Files\Oracle\BI Publisher\BI Publisher Desktop\DotNetInstallFiles\TBAddInSetup.msi) in order to install (C:\Program Files\Oracle\BI Publisher\BI Publisher Desktop\DotNetInstallFiles\TBAddInSetup64.msi)."

    And it's now solved.

I tried with uninstall both ETBAddInSetup.msi and TBAddInSetup.msi, then install both ETBAddInSetup64.msi and TBAddInSetup64.msi

    And it's fixed.

  • I do not understand whyt we need to go through such hoops to get a prodcut working. This is so damn frustrating.
Where did you go to reinstall DOTNET

  • @Paul Siegel totally agree with you, was spending the whole day just to fix this.

Please go to C:\Program Files\Oracle\BI Publisher\BI Publisher Desktop\DotNetInstallFiles folder and launch TBAddInSetup.msi directly, there will be an option asking you whether to remove or repair.

For my case, since I've installed the TBAddInSetup64.msi already, when I double click on TBAddInSetup64.msi, it then shows the options of remove and repair:

While if I launch TBAddInSetup.msi, it would say there's another version of the product being installed.

Please try this and see which version of the product (the 32bit or 64 bit) you're having now, and try to remove the wrong 32 one and get the 64 one installed.
