How to connect Power BI with Oracle in OTBI?

Hello everyone,

Does anyone know if there is currently a manual with the steps to follow to connect the Power BI application with the Oracle Cloud application to import reports and analysis?

Currently I have tried to connect but I am getting the message that it cannot connect due to the error: "Oracle: ORA-12538: TNS:no such protocol adapter"

I appreciate your comments.

A few things have progressed on this topic since the previously posted reply.  SinceOTBI is actually one of the best data sources for Power BI because Oracle has already done the heavy lifting -- the subject areas have pre-built joins, calculations.

Manual approach: As mentioned in previous replies, you can create OTBI reports (analyses) that extract the data you need into files, then consume them via Power Automate + Power Query. This works but requires maintaining individual reports for each Power BI dataset, and it becomes tedious.

BI Connector connects Power BI directly to Oracle Fusion, giving you access to OTBI analyses, BI Publisher Report data models, and custom queries against Fusion tables and views. For OTBI specifically, it preserves all the underlying join - you don't have to recreate the data model in Power BI.

If you also need to land Fusion data in a warehouse (e.g., for blending with non-Oracle sources in Fabric or Snowflake), it supports that path via Microsoft Fabric and Azure Data Factory as well.

Nathan has answered it very well. Just want to add that the feature FAW/OAC has to connect to Oracle Fusion Application using OAC connection can't be achieved by Power BI or another Analytics platform. This is because both are Oracle suites, so Oracle has build the pipelines.

For Power BI or other Analytics platform, the only main option is to get BICC extracts from Fusion and build a whole data model in the data warehouse.
