Custom objects migration from OBIEE11g to OBIEE12c in OBI Apps

Hi Experts,

We are trying to move only custom objects present in both RPD and Catlog from OBIEE11g to OBIEE12c in OBI Apps.

Can we merge only the custom changes present in 11g into 12c. But the issue is since this is OBI Apps. the 11g OOTB and 12c OOTB is different as we are moving from Informatica to ODI.

So will merge work in our case and if not what alternate approach we can use?

Similarly for Catalog also we are assuming we have only option moving reports directly from 11g to 12c and after moving to 12c do a Scan and Update Catalog Objects That Require Updates which will automatically upgrade the catalog items from lower version to higher

Is there any other approach?

Please let me know.

Thanks

  • Hi,

I will give you my point of view about that ....

Moving custom objects in the RPD between different versions of OBIA? I don't see a simple "2 clicks" way to do it as, you said it, there are differences in the base RPD itself as you moved from an Informatica OBIA to the ODI based OBIA.

So you are doing all the possible migration you could fit in at once, and at some points you reached the limits ...

If your custom objects are not related to OBIA then maybe you have them as an independent RPD which you can upgrade to 12c first and merge with your OBIA rpd after.

If not I'm afraid your only solution is a copy/paste by hand, recreate your custom objects in the RPD manually checking if they still make sense etc.

I really don't imagine a simpler way of managing that because of the too many different things between your 2 RPD.

    Thanks Gianni for the reply.

Looks like we only have two options and that is manually recreate by looking into 11g rpd and copy/paste by hand wherever necessary.

    Thanks

  • Honestly I guess that's the less risky, with merges etc. you really can break something in the OBIA side of the RPD and this is probably worse ...
