We want to implement security to a custom BIP folder to give restrict access of some users to it. How can we do that?

Is there something we can do in permissions?

    Hi @Amit Dey,

Welcome to the Oracle Analytics Community.

You can do it in multiple ways:

    • Directly assigning those named user in the folder and take out the other roles (except BI Admin) so that those users & BI Admin will only have access to that folder.
    • You can create a new custom role which will be assigned to those users that needed access to the folder then assign the newly created role to that folder and take out other roles (except BI Admin).

Please take a look into the following Oracle Note and the video which might be useful for the understanding.

    Hope this help.

    Thank you.

    Hi Amit,

Steps to Restrict Access to a Custom BIP Folder:
    1. Create a Custom Role for Restricted Access

Navigate to Tools → Security Console in Oracle Fusion.
Go to Roles and click Create Role.
Assign the role to specific users who should have access.

    2. Modify Folder Permissions in BI Catalog

Go to Reports and Analytics → Browse Catalog.
Locate the Custom Folder under Shared Folders.
Click Permissions in the Tasks pane.
Remove access for BI Consumer Role and BI Author Role.
Add the Custom Role you created and grant appropriate permissions.

    3. Apply Permissions to Subfolders & Items

Select Apply permissions to sub-folders and Apply permissions to items within folder.
    Click OK to save changes.

    4. Test Access Restrictions

Log in as a user without the custom role to verify that the folder is not visible.
Assign the custom role to a user and confirm they can access the folder.
