How to prevent visualisation filter options from resetting when a data action refilters the canvas?

Question

When a data action is used to pass values using an analytics link and then filter the linked canvas it also appears to reset the checkboxes on visualisations within that canvas which determine if the visualisation should be refined by those canvas filters.

It seems the data action causes all visualisations on the linked canvas to adopt the canvas filters, even if they had been previously checked to disregard any/all of them.

Is this a bug or the intended design? If the latter, than it limits how you might use that data action to populate a canvas such as compare a filtered group to an unfiltered group. Is there a way of preventing this resetting?

That document states that it uses matching existing canvas filters, so if I have already specified they should not filter certain visualisations on the canvas, this is being overwritten by the filter update ofthe data action.

The document doesn't state anywhere if this is the intention, so it's not clear if this is a bug or not. But it's not what I expect the data action to do.
