I have installed IFS on Solaris. I cannot start the smb server bcos we already have samba running on that server. Can anybody help? Point me in the right direction.

Thanks

Try this. Stop your Samba server, then try running iFS. I'll bet it will work. You can't have two servers running on the same port, and the SMB protocol must be on port 139.

Remember that since the Windows SMB Client cannot be reconfigured to use a port other than 139 only 1 SMB server can be active on a given machine. This means that the iFS SMB server and any other SMB server are mutually exclusive on a given machine. Even if you reconfigure the iFS Server to run on a different port, you cannot reconfigure the SMB clients to attempt to connect on that port

Thanks for your 2 suggestions. Is it possible to merge the existing samba server
    with Ifs smb server?

    Thanks Jonas

No, unfortunately they are 2 totally seperate products, code lines, and technologies. The only commonalitly between them is they both demand exclusive access to port 139!
