Application Latency with Golden gate

Hi all i have one question to ask, using golden gate may cause latency in application? is this an issue did anybody find it when golden gate is on for active-active bi-directional golden gate configuration?

I feel load will be doubled on DB's applications may face some sort of latency issue's? We have not done thorough load test just wanted to confirm with it.
