Perhaps the OVMM runInstaller.sh script should look for such a thing as previous version installs and perhaps offer to uninstall them? ;)

Here's what's talking / connected to port 1521: (I've used xxx.xxx in place of my IP) All the connections are from the localhost...

Here's what's running on my system... There are two startweblogic.sh scripts, not sure if that is normal...

Looks like Oracle VM Manager 2.2 is still installed and running.

Avi, thanks again for all you help... I am marking this question as "answered".

I have stopped oc4j and have moved /etc/init.d/oc4j to /opt/oc4j/oc4j.sav

In my thrashing and failed attempts to install 3.0.1 and 3.0.2, I had "rm -rf /op/oc4j" at one point. Then I restored the contents when I wasn't sure if it was needed or not. Perhaps OVM 2.2 was mistakenly re-enabled at some point. Not sure if the newer installer scripts are setup to check for 2.2 or not...

    Problem solved.

    Cheers...

The installer doesn't check for previous 2.x versions at all, as there is no upgrade path from 2.x to 3.x. We assume a clean machine during install.

Re: Can't login to OVM Manager GUI: OVMAPI_6000E Internal Error: Connectioo log in - OVMAPI 6000E error, exactly as described on this thread.

However, unlike this thread, this is a clean install of OVM 3.02.

I have also used SQL developer to connect to XE, and I can see that the OVS user is not locked out.

Can't see anything in logs apart from the usual connection refused check logs message.

    Any ideas anyone?

Third time now my OVM test rig has automatically self imploded........

Scan up in AdminServer.log to when Oracle VM Manager is starting to check if there are any errors up front -- you may not see any errors while attempting to login at all.

OK - here we go. Snapshot too old? What is this about?

    Is this system hosed?

Well, it's certainly a database issue:

    http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_ora_01555_snapshot_old.htm
    http://oratips-ddf.blogspot.com/2008/02/dreaded-ora-01555.html

If you're still running XE, I recommend using SE or EE instead, so that you can log a support request for this. I'm not a database person, so I'm not able to provide further assistance with the root cause analysis of why the database is generating this error.

    Gotcha.

Increasing the undo_retention size did not work - but quite frankly, this lab setup is seriously flawed as it's using XE in my view.

I wasn't aware that you could run SE or even EE for OVM only for free. With problems like these - it really makes you wonder why they bother with XE at all.

This is a small test setup - with just two OVM hosts, each with just two Guest VMs. Extremely light use. Quite frankly, the amount of settings data could be held and managed from flat XML files.

Why XE can not manage it properly I don't know.

So this is a great case to warn everyone out there - do **NOT** be tempted to use XE for production OVM implementations!!!!! It will work one day, but not the next.

I'm guessing an XE backup will not work with SE or EE right?

It's weird -- I have XE running a 3-node cluster with 20+ VMs and it works just fine. It's just that we don't provide support for it. Though, once you move to SE or EE, you'll probably notice a nice speed improvement in the UI, because XE is single-threaded, while SE and EE have no memory/CPU limitations.

Yeah, it works fine. You can backup XE and restore to SE or EE. That's the whole point of XE. :)
