Dear All,

I hope someone can help me here with EPM 11.1.2.1 installation problem on my notebook - Windows Server 2008 R2 x65, 8 GB RAM, running SQLServer 2008 Express.

I installed Hyperion Foundation. The installation and configuration went through successfully.

I am facing two problems:

Problem 1

When I try to access the workspace through the URL http://hostname:19000/workspace/index.jsp, I get error:

Quote

Failure of server APACHE bridge:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No backend server available for connection: timed out after 10 seconds or idempotent set to OFF.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

End-quote

Problem 2

Also, the service "Hyperion EPM Server" service not able to start. When I try to start, I get error message:

Quote

The Hyperion EPMA Server service on Local computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs.

End-quote

I tried checking everything but can't seem to figure out what's going wrong.

I have uploaded (1) EPM Config Manager screenshot (2) EPM System diagnostic report (3) EPM Registry editor output and (4) system services listing at
http://www.mediafire.com/?pr9l1v99w4d9u4r,c3vggxeibqkxbo2,lyzclu2aggbn8qh,8kur9gxal5b361z

It would be very grateful if someone can have a look and help me.

Many thanks in advance for any help / pointers / suggestions.

Your firrst problem is due b/c Hyperion Foundation Managed Server is not running. Check your services app and make sure it is running.

The second server could be due to not setting READ_COMMITTED_SNAPSHOT = ON and ALLOW_SNAPSHOT_ISOLATION = ON if you're using MS-SQL as your RDBMS backend.

    Hi Pablo,

    Thanks for quick response.

    (1) When I check Windows services, I do see "Hyperion Foundation Services - Managed Server" showing status as "Started".

    (2) Thanks for suggestion re: setting READ_COMMITTED_SNAPSHOT = ON and ALLOW_SNAPSHOT_ISOLATION = ON. Do I do this on all databases or just EPMA database? How do I set this in SQLServer - I will try to Google around but if you know this, appreciate if you can let me know.

    Thanks.

Check the log file for foundation services in Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem1\diagnostics\logs\services\HyS9FoundationServices-*.log and Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem1\domains\EPMSystem\servers\FoundationServices0\logs\FoundationServices0.log. Error message from Apache just says that Weblogic is not available, but need to find out why it isn't.

For SQL you need to set it on the EPMA db only and you do it like:
ALTER DATABASE MYEPMADB SET READ_COMMITTED_SNAPSHOT ON

    Hi Pablo,

Thanks to your suggestion for database, problem #2 seem to be resolved. I am now able to start EPMA Service.

    Re: Problem 1

This should have been created when you configured Foundation services, but the problem here is that there should be a boot.properties file under the security folder:

    1. create (if it doesn't already exist) a folder called "security" under user_projects\domains\EPMSystem\servers\FoundationServices0\
    2. create a file called boot.properties
The file should have two lines like this:

    username=WEBLOGIC_ADMIN
    password=PASSWORD

The file will be encrypted the first time it runs and the weblogic server should start. the WEBLOGIC_ADMIN is not your hyperion admin account but the one you configured on the "Create Weblogic domain" step when you deployed the application.

You can alternatively just try to re-deploy to application server and all of this "SHOULD" automagically happen.

Pablo, the file existed in the directory but it was blank. I created the entries that you mentioned but it didn't start. In the end, I just removed everything and re-installed. That seem to have solve the problem. Many thanks for your help.
