Whats the use of BI_EE_HOME static variable ?

In OBIEE 11g i saw this variable BI_EE_HOME and was wondering what's the use of it.

    default initializer string to the following directory on your BIEE install :
    \InstallHome\instances\instance1\bifoundation\OracleBIServerComponent\coreapplication_obis1

    the default initializer in my rpd is 'C:\OracleBI' for the BI_EE_HOME static variable.

    Not sure Where from this OracleBI came from

    My directory goes like this C:\OBIEE16\Oracle_BI1

    This is the static variable that in OBIEE rpd to the sample XML files in the BI server file system - BI_EE_HOME/sample/SampleAppFiles/data

    which would referenced by Oracle BI Server XML API .. refer to : http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E28280_01/bi.1111/e23950/xml_physical.htm
