I use
Sun Java Studio Creator 2
to develop the look/components of my jsf pages. (Does not have facelets support yet, but is still very good for visual design)

thanks

i will look into that
have you tried anything else so far?

Yip, I have basically tried everything out there.... (and still look every week)

I personally use Exadel studio (in eclipse) because it is the first (only?) editor to fully support facelets.

As soon as Studio Creator uses facelets instead of JSP it will be the best GUI JSF builder by a long way, its drag and drop is unmached (for a free ide that is)
843842
so is it Sun Java Studio Creator?
Or Exadel?
843842
i have downloaded the java studio creator since it seemed like a good ide for creating jsf.

what i would like to ask though is that i am currently using only jdk1.4 from j2se and not j2ee and tomcat 4.1. will jsf work with this? and do i need to download anything else?

In the November NetBeans 5.5 will support drag and drop design for JSF
1.2 .

is that better than the sun java studio creator?

Wait for IBM's Rational Software Architect v7 :D
it will be equipped with ajaxifed jsf components...

I don't have an experience with using Sun Studio Creator, but I think that You can use only 1.1 JSF with Creator.

really, it will be free or commercial?
843842
free? lol :)
v6 is the most expensive ide on the market (like 4500$)
it will be commercial but it's not just a jsf ide. it has lots of things like uml modeler and etc.
it will be around by the end of this year i think.

i am using tomcat 4 and one of the tutorials i read said that i had to use tomcat 5. does this really hold true? i mean can't i use jdk 1.4 and tomcat 4?
843842
There are two versions of tomcat 4.x (currently 4.1.34), full and light version. Light version requires jdk1.4, full version will work with jdk1.2 or later.

Why not using tomcat 5.x if you are using jdk1.4?
843842
i am using j2se1.4.2 and what is installed with it was tomcat4 which i cannot uninstall since i am not the administrator :-)

will jsf work with that?

what else do i need to install?
843842
As i said before, depends on the version of tomcat4..
If you get jsp compilation errors, you have no chance.
Find the admin dude, try to use tomcat 5.

Exadel Studio pro version has very very good support of jsf/hibernate and costs only 200$. There is also free version that is also good. And now NetBeans has facelets support.

BEA Workshop for JSF Version: 3.2.0 is pretty good to go with JSF. It costs 199$ and you can install a trial version with full features functional for 30 days.

I've been using MyEclipseide for all my JSF projects. It is not a free product, but I believe it is one of the better ones available. Look at the JSF features available here:
http://www.myeclipseide.com/ContentExpress-display-ceid-56.html

They keep adding features to this. If you are used to working with Eclipse you should definatly check it out.

i would really like to use something free so i am still trying out java studio creator.

i dunno if it'll work with my existing java and tomcat setup though
