Supervisor hierarchy not working when hire date of manager is greater then that of employee

We have an employee and a supervisor, the hire date of the supervisor is greater then that of the employee so we did a workaround by following the steps in Doc ID 2158113.1. Now the approvals for these employees is not working. Any help is appreciated.

I tired the scenario and it is working fine in any transaction even when the Managers' Hire date is greater than this reportee.

could you explain more on what transaction the approval is not working.
