Hi

Do we have bootstrap4 template in owcs12c? What's the support offered for bootstrap framework?

Couldn't find any info in docs. Looking for references/ resources that can provide information on this area.

There should be no issue in using bootstrap at all even if you are targeting your website for mobile. Download the latest JSK (11g or 12c, I would prefer to use 12c as 11g will be deprecated soon) and check avisports website. It has an example of tablet and mobile website as well which should clarify you on design and development strategies.

Furthermore, if you simply use bootstrap and WCS without considering device group, even that will work as bootstap will take care of the mobile/ tablet/ desktop view of the website.

    Hello Mohan,

Bootstrap is a UI framework based on JS/CSS that can be used independent of Sites’ tags. Many websites use Angular/Bootstrap in Sites pages.

However, support for such usages is not assured; they can co-exist. For instance, issues that otherwise are caused by the use of Bootstrap constructs unless they prove it’s caused by Sites-Bootstrap interplay, are not supported.

    Thanks,

    Sreevalli

    Hi @SreevalliK-Oracle

Couldn't understand your point - "For instance, issues that otherwise are caused by the use of Bootstrap constructs unless they prove it’s caused by Sites-Bootstrap interplay, are not supported."  Is this more from support perspective?

my question is - can we use bootstrap to achieve RWD in wcs templates or is there any other preference or support offered?

Was looking for references whether anyone in community tried it before.

    Thanks

    Hello Mohan,

You can use bootstrap to achieve Responsive design.I replied from Oracle Support perspective.

Good if any one else who has already implemented responds as they may help you in achieving your requirement.

    Thanks,

    Sreevalli

Yes you can use bootstrap or any other front end pattern or framework. Technically WCS has no dependency in the delivery side of things. There are dependencies when working inside of the data entry ui (contributor ui) but that does not need to impact your templates

    Hi Mohan,

Yes, you can use. We have built templates using bootstrap framework before and I think Sreevalli is correct in her perspective.

    Thanks @BSR

Are there any best practices / patterns or guidelines followed during development phase. If you've blogged please share the link.

    Thanks

There is no restrictions as to what front end frameworks you can use in your templates.

Since you delivery pages are written entirely by you then use what makes sense to your development based on available resources and their skills as well your projects goals. Support really should not be an issue here as long as you are using the supported tags and Java API to populate your model.

If you intend on using it in the Contributor UI for customisations then you need to be a little more careful about possible conflicts with Dojo.

Graham L This isn't for customizing Contributor / authoring interface.

Looking at approach for making website generated out of OWCS mobile-first using bootstrap.
