Suggestion for Oracle DB local development

We are looking for recommendations on the best solution for local development of our application which has an Oracle 12c DB for the backend. Or development team here all have Macs as well. We have been going back and forth from using an Oracle container (Docker) to virtual machine via Oracle virtual box. We are just looking for the best solution for this particular situation to ensure it most effective and compliant for local development of our application on developer laptops.
