Hi,

I have change the SYS password today in my RAC 12.1.0.2 database

I expect to see that the orapwd file date is also changed at the asm instance , but it did nt not as you can see bellow.

I  dont have orapwd file under $ORACLE_HOME/dbs as well

ASMCMD [+DATAC1/DWH/PASSWORD] > ls -l

Type      Redund  Striped  Time             Sys  Name

PASSWORD  HIGH    COARSE   MAY 12     2019  Y    pwddwh.274.879505273

Any suggestion why password file date didnt chage in the asm file system ?

Thanks

Yoav

Look in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs on all nodes in the cluster. Do you have a password file there? Did the timestamp change?

    Cheers,

Check below to get password file location:

    srvctl config database -d <DB_NAME>

You may be looking at wrong password file.

    Hi,

No. Nothing found in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs at both nodes.

x5dm01db02:[email protected]+ASM2 /u01/app/oracle/product/12.1.0.2/dbhome_1/dbs]$ srvctl config database -d dwhDatabase unique name: dwhDatabase name: dwhOracle home: /u01/app/oracle/product/12.1.0.2/dbhome_1Oracle user: oracleSpfile: +DATAC1/DWH/PARAMETERFILE/spfile.286.879505875Password file: +DATAC1/DWH/PASSWORD/pwddwh.274.879505273Domain: Start options: openStop options: immediateDatabase role: PRIMARYManagement policy: AUTOMATICServer pools: Disk Groups: DATAC1,RECOC1Mount point paths: Services: dwpsacrm,TTS_SERVICEType: RACStart concurrency: Stop concurrency: OSDBA group: dbaOSOPER group: dbaDatabase instances: dwh1,dwh2Configured nodes: x5dm01db01,x5dm01db02Database is administrator managed

And inside the asm it didnt changed.

ASMCMD [+DATAC1/DWH/PASSWORD] > ls -lType      Redund  Striped  Time             Sys  NamePASSWORD  HIGH    COARSE   MAY 12     2019  Y    pwddwh.274.879505273

I have verified that i successully connect with the new password and failed to login with the old sys password.

It is strange that password file didnt updated.

    Thanks

    Yoav

    Hi ,

Can you please share command you used to create password file?

The password file has been created during database installation.

All i did is execute : ALTER USER SYS IDENTIFIED BY xxxxx

SQL> show parameter loginNAME                                 TYPE        VALUE------------------------------------ ----------- ------------------------------remote_login_passwordfile            string      EXCLUSIVE

The password file should be update in the O.S (in this case in the asm) , but it didnt

    Thanks

    Yoav

    Hello,

Should ALTER USER Statement Be Used For Changing SYS Password? (Doc ID 2452286.1)

It is always recommended to use ORAPWD utility to change SYS password.

May be you can check using orapwd utility & see it works for you.

    Regards,

    Adi

as password file is in ASM so it is shared across the nodes
