Hello All,

I just downloaded Oracle DB Developer VM from https://www.oracle.com/downloads/developer-vm/community-downloads.html and loaded in my virtualhost

Upon bringing up the box, i can connect to the DB as sqlplus system but NOT as "sqlplus / as sysdba" , why so ?

[email protected] ~]$ sqlplus / as sysdba

SQL*Plus: Release 19.0.0.0.0 - Production on Tue Dec 3 12:58:17 2019

Version 19.3.0.0.0

Copyright (c) 1982, 2019, Oracle.  All rights reserved.

ERROR:

ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied

Enter user-name: ^C

Regards,

John Jacob

1.) Try putting the "/ as sysdba" in double quotes.

2.) What happens if you remove the "/ as sysdba" string and enter it at the "Enter user-name" prompt?

3.) Is the oracle user account a member of the "dba" or "oinstall" security group?  Connecting as SQLDBA to a DB has certain OS security constraints.

Well, I've spend my knowledge on this as I'm not using Oracle Database 19c or this pre-canned VirtualBox VM.

The error/issue you're encountering is a Oracle DB issue and out of scope for the "Oracle VM Server for x86" community.  I suggest running down some Google searches on the "sqlplus sysdba fail" or "oracle 19 connect sysdba invalid username/password".  Unfortunately, many of the higher results are basically what I suggested.

You may also have better luck in the community.

Sorry I cannot be more help.
