Hello Everyone,

I hope, you all are doing well.

I need assistance to deploy OEM 13c on AWS. I wasn't able to find any documentation for that.

If someone has already performed such activity. Would be great, if I can get some sort of guidance, advice and feedback while running on AWS.

Few questions are in my mind:

  • Whether Oracle will support if we deploy OEM 13c on AWS
  • Can we use AWS RDS Instance for OMR (considering Oracle will support)
  • Can we have active:active OMS configuration in EC2

Basically I need initial help to understand whether is it good to move to AWS or should we start deploying on-prem.

Regards,

Gurinder

    Hi Gurinder,

As of now EM13c is available on OCI through Market place, using which one can install EM on OCI.

We do not have official documentation which supports EM on AWS.

Still EM install on AWS should go fine if we ensure the install / nw requirements.

I do not think Oracle will support in case of any issues reported on this environment.

    Best Regards,
    Venkat

    Hi,

Also i see the following document which talks about EM support for the RDS
EM 13c: Enterprise Manager 13c Cloud Control Support for Amazon Web Service as a Target (Doc ID 2334168.1)

Which says the RDS can be monitored as target in EM using a custom plugin but Oracle will not support it. If it is not supported as target, will it be supported as a repository?

    Best Regards,Venkat

    Hello Venkat,

    Thanks for replying.

Document that you have shared is for other way around which says that OEM 13c can monitor AWS RDS.

    My question is:

    - Can I deploy OEM13c on RDS (OMR) and EC2 (OMS) ?

    Regards,

    Gurinder

    Hi Gurinder,

Please see the document, there it is clearly saying for monitoring itself the RDS is not support by Oracle.

If it is not supported for monitoring, then how come will it be support for the Repository DB? Since Repository DB also will be monitored by EM by deploying an agent.

In general the new version of DB release will be first certified for EM monitoring through the capabilities added to DB plugin to monitor it. Then it will be certified for the Repository DB.

Also regarding the EM install on AWS, please see my first post after verifying with the internal teams. There is no supported documentation for EM install on AWS as well.

    Best Regards,

    Venkat

    Hi Gurinder,

Yes!! I see the SR and observed the analyst had already reached out to Product Management and got the clarifications.

I am really not sure how many customers might have already tried this approach. Let's wait and see if any one responds and share their experience.

    Thanks,
    Venkat

    Hello All,

we have been successfully running EM CC 13.3 and EM CC 13.4 on AWS for the last 3 -4 years.

this is what we are using :

OMR ==> Oracle RDBMS 19.10 on Redhat Linux on EC2 - instance type = R5.xlarge

    OMA ==> Redhat Linux on EC2 - Instance Type = t3.2xlarge

we are monitoring AWS RDS Oracle EE Targets successfully using the "option group" add option = OEM Agent , which takes care of installing the OEM Agent on the AWS RDS ORACLE Server, through the AWS Automation.

this has worked well for all performance monitoring / tuning/ sql monitoring.

we do not use EM CC for patching / upgrading, as this is already automated in the AWS RDS Oracle Service.
