Hello experts,

We are on EPM 11.1.2.3.700 / On premise servers / distributed / Windows 2008 R2.

We are getting below error, while opening HFM dimension library:

An error was encountered by the CAS Security Provider: EPMCSS-00301: Failed to authenticate user. Invalid credentials. Enter valid credentials.

This issue is for both Native and MSAD users.

We also checked load balancer (EPM components are on distributed environment), but responsible team informed us there is no issue there.

We also checked epm.conf, and compared it with a backup version from time there was no issue - no change.

We also found out:

In Shared Services, we are receiving “EPMLCM-13000: Service currently not available” error while checking with Shared Services artifacts.

But, in the back-end EPMA services are up and running.

We also observed that Shared Services artifacts are opening for ESSBASE App but not to HFM, PLANNING and FDMEE from Shared Services.

Could you please provide some pointers as to why it might have happened?

We did a lot of research on Oracle community and testing, but couldn't find anything relevant to our case.

Thanks in advance.

A Few quick things to check/confrim we start. That is a pretty generic error with LCM.  Normally means communication issues.

1 - Does Calculation Manger open whiteout errors, and can you expand and view your all of HFM, Planning, etc... apps?  You might need to right click and refresh on the product once you get in there.

2 - Have you run a validate.bat|sh to confirm the software is running properly and all components are registered with Shared Services without error?

3 - Was any type fo configuration or reconfiguration done recently?

4 - is this a new issue (just started happening?) or a persistent issue?

5 - This could be two separate issues.  The Dimension library issue - that's IIS driven so you could check the DimensionServer.log and see if there's anything useful (not likely).

Check those two things quick and let us know then we can start digging deeper.

One more quick thing - I forgot about the epm.conf file.

Check out this Oracle KB - Oracle Support Document 2196893.1 (Unable To Open Application Library From Workspace: "An error was encountered by the CAS Security Provider:  EPMCSS-00301: Failed to authenticate user. Invalid credentials. Enter valid credentials") can be found at: https://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/DocumentDisplay?id=2196893.1

Since EPMA is configured, all products whether they use it or not for deployed applications will go "looking" for EPMA Dimension Service to be fully functional for LCM tasks.

I don't know what might have changed in your environment if anything, but it's critical to ensure that the EPMA Dimension server is up and running without issues as well.  Calculation Manager is often a good way to show if EPMA Dim server is running.  it tends to throw errors when there are under the cover issues.

Here's the snippet of that KB:

    APPLIES TO:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version 11.1.2.0.00 to 11.1.2.4.203 [Release 11.1]

    Hyperion Planning - Version 11.1.2.0.00 to 11.1.2.4.005 [Release 11.1]

Information in this document applies to any platform.

    SYMPTOMS

Unable to open both the Application Library and Dimension Library from Workspace.  In each case you get the following message: "An error was encountered by the CAS Security Provider: EPMCSS-00301: Failed to authenticate user. Invalid credentials. Enter valid credentials"

    CAUSE

The EPMA Dimension Server does not accept the credentials passed to it from Workspace.  Once a user authenticates by logging into Workspace a CSS Token is sent to the EPMA Dimension Server when trying to access either the Application Library or Dimension Library. This token is being rejected.

The reason for the rejection is that the request was being sent to an EPMA Dimension Server that was part of another (separate) EPM environment.

    SOLUTION

    1.  Edit the epm.conf file in the DRIVE:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\/httpConfig/ohs/config/OHS/ohs_component folder.

    2.  Look specifically at the following two lines:

             ProxyPass /hyperion-bpma-server http://HOSTNAME:80/hyperion-bpma-server
             ProxyPassReverse /hyperion-bpma-server http://HOSTNAME:80/hyperion-bpma-server

    3. Correct the hostname on each line and save the changes

    4. Restart OHS.

    5. Test that you can now login to Workspace and access both the Application Library and Dimension Library.

@iArchSolutions-Joe provided reasonable solution for you authentication.issue.  The second issue i see is you do not have a windows admin user granted access to shared folder where LCM import_export is located in shared services server.  This folder need to visible to all distributed servers only then LCM will start working.

Great call on the permissions as well for the imnport_export folder.  Forgot about that!
