Has anyone added a flexfield with a person selector behind it that does not require maintenance?

Hello.  I am interested in creating a flexfield on the employment page that contains the Recruiting associate's name who brought in the hired associate.  I would prefer to use a search behind the flexfield that would allow me to use already-existing functionality and associate names so that I do not need to maintain a list of people that can be selected.  Has anyone done anything like this?
