10.1.3.4 patch - updating Olite db?

I'm trying to patch my SOA Suite (win32) from 10.1.3.1 to 10.1.3.4.

Installation instructions tell me to connect to db with orabpel / oraesb users and run certain patch scripts.

I installed the basic installation of SOA Suite. I don't recall if installer asked me for orabpel or oraesb passwords? Does it ask those, or does it supply some default values?

Which program, and how, should I use to connect to the Olite db and run the modifications?

  • I believe it does ask those questions but I typically do an advanced install and install against XE instead of olite (just because we have found XE to behave a bit better). In any case, I believe the userid and password are typically the same: orabpel / orabpel and oraesb / oraesb.

If all else fails, login to the database as a dba and change the passwords for those two accounts. Then try your upgrade again.

  • In a basic install you don't get this as it insatlls itself.

to upgrade you need to use the polsql.cmd forund $ORACLE_HOME/bin, this is the sqlplus for olite.

then run the upgrade scripts for olite. I forget if they are installed as different schemas they could be all in the system schema. You can check this by looking at your datasources for esb and bpel.

the passwords will be any, or orabpel or oraesb.

    cheers

There seem to be separate schemas for esb and bpel.

polsql.cmd connects to the bpel schema using

    msql.exe system/[email protected]:[email protected]:1531:orabpel %*

I created a polsqlesb.cmd which connects to bpel schema using

    msql.exe system/[email protected]:[email protected]:1531:oraesb %*

This enabled me to start running the updates

Running the updates results in problems. The bpel schema updates fail:

After that all the updates result in "request communication failed". I cannot even connect to the database anymore until I restart the OLite service from service manager. It seems the problem is caused by {font:'Arial','sans-serif'}{size:10pt}"duplicate keys in unique/primary index" in {size}{font}{font:'Arial','sans-serif'}{size:10pt}DLV_SUBSCRIPTION.

I tried to work around by skipping the CONV_ID modification to DLV_SUBSCRIPTION and running the rest of the updates step by step. This worked, except "{size}{font}<span style="line-height: 115%">{font:'Arial','sans-serif'}{size:10pt}alter table fault_sensor_values enable constraint<br />fault_sensor_pk" result in "syntax error".

Installation guide chapter 5.1.2. step 4 also says to "ensure values...install.http.port=7777". Well, it is not since basic installation installed SOA Suite on port 8888.

After running the updates I attempted to apply the patch set. The first time I got error "MU service (?) has stopped working" before I get to enter the admin password. The next time I get further, enter admin password and patch starts to install. Still it hangs at 69%, "spawning d:\product\10.1.3.1\Oracle_AS_3\opmn\bin\opmnctlw startall".

I think I will have to try to install 10.1.3.1 afresh and apply the patch on top of it.

Another try on top of fresh 10.1.3.1 installation, this time there was no other problems, but still the patch installation hangs at 69%, ""spawning c:\product\10.1.3.1\Oracle_AS_5\opmn\bin\opmnctlw startall"."

    OS is Windows Vista 64bit.

Seems that the hang is related to Vista. Running the installer on Windows XP works. Too bad.
