Why doesn't HFM use Essbase to store data

Hi,


I am not much experienced in both HFM and Planning. But a question just came to my mind....

Since HFM uses dimensions... why doesn't it use Essbase? why use RDBMS? or this is how it is ? ask oracle

The only thing i can think of is that volume.

HFM need to store and perform calculation on larger data set as compared to essbase. Maybe i am wrong... just thinking loud

    They are two separate products, originally created by separate companies, they have separate development teams so they are not going to be the same.

    If you look to the future with Oracle and to FCCS then that runs on top of Essbase just like PBCS so they will be using the same database engine.

    Just curious... which would be faster... for HFM.... RDBMS or Essbase?

    Each of them has its own importance ... HFM is used more from consolidation and stand point as actuals system so RDBMS suites it the best also it has VB rules for calculation and the way that data stores in HFM RDBMS and Essbase are completely different and later being used to different analysis and different perceptions of data with quicker retrievals and calcs..

    As John stated may be in future that might happen to use a common database.

    That feels like comparing apples to oranges. Even though they are both fruit comparing 'speeds' is very relative question.

    That being said if you had the skills to build an equivalent sized HFM application in ESSBASE somehow, you could probably get a 'consolidation' business rule to run faster. Which is probably why, as John mentions, Oracle are looking to push FCCS to ESSBASE.

    As others have stated it is not something you can compare because they are not the same.

    Oracle are putting effort into the cloud and FCCS which runs on top of Essbase so make your own conclusions.
