Ping or access router remotely via DynDns
Hi,
My first post.
Is it posible to ping or access a router remotely via Oracle DynDns? If posible, how do I do that?
Reason for this is that I need a method to check after working hours if power is restored at work after a power outage so I know when to startup our network system.
Arris DG1670A is our cable router.

you will need to enable the ping feature on WAN on the router and then goto the dyndns control panel to tagged the domain to your internet ip address and after you have done it then you can ping
but it is recommended that only enable it for testing purposes as if hacker managed to know your domain they can send POD to your network ( POD stand for ping of death )

how to enable the ping feature on WAN is depend on the router model so it is best to consult the user manual for your router model

i forgot to mention that some router model by default they set the ping on WAN feature as disable.

if you want to allow remote access to the router remotely from WAN, you need to enable the remote management and if possible some model allow you to defined the port for remote management.

as for the DYNDNS feature on the router also need to consult the user manual, if cannot find then you can download the dyndns client software to use computer to update the ip on hostname record
