java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver

I downloaded the classes12.jar from oracle and now i am a bit confused. I saved the file in my java folder (which must be the wrong place), but i am not too sure where to save the file. I have been trying to find information but everything is talking about classpaths and everything which is really confusing me. Where abouts should this jar file be saved and what needs to be done?
The error returned is in the title.
