Hi
I am begginer to jsp
I have downloaded apache-tomcat-7.0.19-windows-x86,unzipped it,

Added an environmental variable JRE_HOME
and it's value is C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_22

I have started tomcat from startup batch file , a console window appeared for a while then disappeared .

when open my browser internet explorer and write address

http://localhost:8080/ then press forward button

I get
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

what is the problem please.

    Is that the entire error message?

    What you can try:
    It appears you are connected to the Internet, but you might want to try to reconnect to the Internet.

    Retype the address.

    Go back to the previous page.

    Most likely causes:
    •You are not connected to the Internet.
    •The website is encountering problems.
    •There might be a typing error in the address.

    Hi,

    I'm also a beginner when it comes to JSPs, but I was thinking... What you described happened to me because Tomcat wasn't already running when I tried to access the address. You could try going to the tomcat\bin directory and re-starting/starting Tomcat, then open the browser and try to access the address. To re-start Tomcat, type shutdown, to stop it in case it's already running, then type startup. Hope that helps.
