Since Java 6 the Desktop API was added, which is basically the JDIC API. Here is the javadoc:

I would use that in stead of JDIC now that you moved to Java 6.

Note that JDIC is not a standard library in Java 5 so to make your application compile using it you should already have the external JDIC jar somewhere and put it on the classpath. That is the most confusing part of your question!

Thanks for the reply.I have moved to java 6 now and I dont want to use JDIC as no documentaion or download is available .
Is there any alternative for jdic web browser in Java 6.
Earlier in Java 5 I was using the below code to embedd the browser in the jpanel

    org.jdesktop.jdic.Webbrowser webbrowser=new WebBrowser
    Jpanel testPanel=new jPanel();
here pdfURl is the url of a pdf file which I want to open in browser which is embed in jpanel.

How can I do the same thing without the webbrowser.
I read the java.awt.desktop browse method but it opens in a new window ,how can I embedd it in the jpanel?

    Please help.

Any help please. With the desktop api ,the file opens in a browser.I want the file to be inside a jpanel.
desktop api has no method available to browse or open a file in a jpanel i.e I cannot add the desktop to a jpanel.

I would consider other options if I were you. Not only have you been fruitlessly bumping this thread for over a month now, but I did a search for jdic downloads as well and and it is really nowhere to be found. I'm afraid this is one of the casualties of the Sun to Oracle transition.

Thanks for the reply.I have been looking for other options also available but I dont find any options that would replace the
webbrowser of jdic in Java 1.6.
If you have any suggestions for other options please share.
One alternative i found was java.awt.desktop api but thta doesnt help me to add my pdf or file in a panel. It would just browse the url in a default browser.

I searched and found there are options available as

I am confused in deciding which one to choose to work with Java 1.6.My requirement is only to display the already generated pdf files
    in a swing jpanel.
Please can anyone help me in deciding which one to choose.I want to use a free library and dont want to pay.

    please help.
