Basic, Common Operators - How Oracle Indexes and Searches

SDCraigFeb 17 2012 — edited Feb 17 2012
Hello:

Newbie, here. Completely lost on this site at this point, so I thought I would post my first question here and perhaps get some direction. I work for a legal consulting firm and work with clients who use Oracle. I have questions regarding common operators (quotes, commas, periods, hyphens, etc.) in Oracle.

1). I would like some direction on where I could learn more about common/basic operators.

2). Also, how does Oracle index documents? How does it index these common characters?

3). The follow-up question would be: As an example, how would Oracle search the word "semi-automatic"? How does Oracle search the hyphen in this word? Does Oracle search the entire word?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
