LSNRCLT status errors

Oracle 11gR2
Oracle Linux 5.10
I started the Listener.
[[email protected] ~]$ lsnrctl start LSNRCTL for Linux: Version 11.2.0.1.0 - Production on 29-OCT-2014 13:32:29 Copyright (c) 1991, 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved. The dbconsole is up and running.
[[email protected] ~]$ emctl status dbconsole Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g Database Control Release 11.2.0.1.0 Copyright (c) 1996, 2009 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved. https://dub-ImrORA2.americas.epicor.net:1158/em/console/aboutApplication Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g is running.
When I try to connect to OEM in my browser it says the Listener and dbconsole staus is unavaiable.
When I check the status of the Listener I get errors:
[[email protected] ~]$ lsnrctl status LSNRCTL for Linux: Version 11.2.0.1.0 - Production on 29-OCT-2014 13:35:37 Copyright (c) 1991, 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved. I ran Telnet on the server and port 1521 and it is accepting connections. But I get timeout errors when trying to connect from SQLPLUS on the laptop.
Any suggestions?

I found the problem - /etc/resolv.conf file.
Had a nameserver that is no longer available - went offline during the power outage and is not coming back.
I pinged all of the nameservers, all but one was reachable. Once I commented out the bad nameserver eveything worked normally.

Hi,
At a guess i'd check your hosts file as the short name and fully qualified host name listed in it? Do you have the long or the short name in the listener.ora file?

Rich

I think Richard got it.
In addition, I'd ask:
Is there a listener.ora? Perhaps you've set some name you need to specify.
Does the emctl show a log directory? Those logs may be TMI, but sometimes you can get a clue out of them.

Shouldn't timeout and retries be handling that?
