Yes, we plan to support it, however it is a major update as VS 2022 is now 64 bit and the extension infrastructure has changed in some breaking ways. In other words, it will take a lot of work to support. We will know more as we get closer to 2022, but ODT won't be working with any of the VS 2022 prereleases. Stay tuned.

It is GA now

You know Microsoft does preview releases so that you get a head start on creating a ODT for it...
"In other words, it will take a lot of work to support"
i.e. more than the one guy you assign to develope it you mean.

User_MVP4D

Hi,
any concrete plans to release the ODT for Visual Studio 2022? It is the only stone missing to be able to transfer our project to VS 2022.

User_O62TC

Showing support for this request.

Daniel Fox

Agreed. VS 2022 has been in preview for 6 months and is now released. This is holding up project migrations to VS 2022 and is causing my team to lean toward moving away from Oracle in favor of MS SQL Server which maintains support for the latest development tools instead of forcing devs to wait months for a solution

VS2022 何时支持?

vxchin

VS2019 是 2019 年 4 月发布的,我记得当年大家一直等到 2020 年的二月份才用上 ODT for VS2019,所以这次…… 哎……
VS2019 was released in April 2019. And the initial release of ODT for VS2019 was released in February 2020. So this time... Emmmm...

User_U3W1O

Same as the rest of us: please bring out the new ODT for VS2022.

user8761842

Any updates would be appreciated. Thanks!

Has there been any progress on releasing Oracle Data Tools for Visual Studio 2022???

user11311218

Please give us an estimate on a preview/beta release so we can plan accordingly.

Benja-147

Also expressing interest in this as I have critical infrastructure that requires VS 2022 and ODT.

nswandel

Very frustrating that there is no information on supported functionality and ETA

Benja-147

@christian-shay-oracle any update on this please?

User_KL26W

With Microsoft's announcement EOL (End of Life) of Version 5.x of .net and .net CORE being 5/8/2022 (https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/platform/support/policy/dotnet-core),,) we will have to move to VS2022 and Version 6 of .net. However, we can't move to VS2022 without ODT for VS2022.
Can you please update us on when ODT for VS2022 will be available?

Benja-147

Update from a ticket I opened with Oracle:

"Hi, Benjamin.
Thanks for contacting Oracle Global Customer Support.
I'm so sorry to share with you that I just have been informed that currently there is not a date yet.
We hope that in the next near month it can be release, but there is not even an ETA.

So sorry for the inconveniences it may cause. Thanks for your patient."

Don't hold your breath guys....!

MartinM

Any updates on this?

Hi everyone,
We are in progress with ODT for VS 2022 right now, however we do not have a date yet (it is more than a month away at least). As soon as I know anything I will update you here.

VinceAFW

I need ODT for VS2022 too but like Benja-147 says, I will continue to breath. As usual, Windows devs are second class citizens for Oracle.

Alexander.K

we're phasing out Oracle DBs here, too. Just our ERP System is still on Oracle, rest is already on SQL Server, as the support is way better.
It's a pain having to wait so long for a working Visual Studio integration. It didn't come as a surprise...

User_IGO2U

what is an exact timeline for VS2022?

User_KL26W

@christian-shay-oracle could we please get an update? Understanding that this is a major update, Oracle should not have been caught by surprise nor the work involved with this update. Waiting for the EOL from Microsoft to actually (almost) happen does not serve your Oracle customers well.

MartinM

My thoughts exactly! Well said.

Literally registered an account to come onto this public forum and say: Hurry TFU! Thx!

The lack of availability for VS 2022 support is very frustrating. The lack of information of the ETA even more so. My other 3rd party toolsets had support from day one.

Alexander.K

just a suggestion: try EF Core Power Tools. It's way better than the Oracle Tools, with just one downside: it doesn't support fuctions or stored procedures on Oracle Databases.
https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=ErikEJ.EFCorePowerTools
And yes, it can also re engineer existing databases.
If you don't need to call stored procedures, use that.
And it's open source... and Eric wasn't that surprised that Microsoft released a new version of Visual Studio. He even implemented it in preview versions of VS2022...

mos_379

doesn't work without ODT, so you are forced to use the old VS as well here.

Alexander.K

Nope, works here without Oracle Client installed and without ODT.
you should just have the TNSNames.ora file.
Edit: you have to add the Nuget packages for Oracle Open Data Access (core)!!

Christian.Shay -Oracle

Hi all, thank you for your patience. I know this delay is extremely frustrating. A status update: There was a bug in Visual Studio 2022 that prevented a significant feature in our extension from working and so we have been working with Microsoft to get the fix and make changes in our extensions to work with that fix. Progress is being made and we are moving forward towards the release. I will let you know here when I have a more firm timeframe for the release.

User_KL26W

@christian-shay-oracle Hi Christian - while we are glad that you update this forum with the current status of the issue, I believe this has gotten to the point where we need regular updates (every 2 weeks), even when there isn't much to update. At least then we know there is (still) a sense that it is on the radar screen.
The frustration in this thread needs to be escalated through your management and not just to the 1st or 2nd levels above you. It would even be appropriate to ask that level of management to post something here to ensure that these types of delays will not happen in the future. They are avoidable, if Oracle is really interested in not letting this happen again.

We are waiting for a fix from Microsoft at this point. We are considering releasing without the fix but that means that some major functionality will be broken.

Alexander.K

what major functionality would that be exactly?
In our case, we would mostly need db reverse engineering. If that works, I'd be perfectly happy.

Ruben Dominguez

Is there any update regarding this.
We can appreciate the constant notice but its already July 2022 and we are still unable to connect to databases unless we use older software.. Seems backwards of progress.
Thank you in advance
