JDK 7u15+ required but getting JRE

TonyA Member Posts: 13

Hi All,

I'm installing a WebLogic server and need JDK 7u15+

I downloaded "Java SE Development Kit 7u79" (jdk-7u79-windows-x64.exe)

C:\Program Files\Java\jre7u79

and sent JAVA_HOME:

C:\oracle-software\wls1212_V38518-01>echo %JAVA_HOME%

C:\Program Files\Java\jre7u79\

From what I can see I have downloaded a JDK, but when I run java -version it shows a JRE

C:\oracle-software\wls1212_V38518-01>java -version

java version "1.7.0_79"

Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_79-b15)

Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.79-b02, mixed mode)

What happened to my JDK?  I've only got a JRE.

Thanks for any help

    Hi All

    I've found my mistake:

The installer prompts for a JDK location which I supplied, then it prompts for a JRE location.  I gave the same location as the JDK meaning the the JDK java.exe gets overwritten by the JRE one.

Despite having JAVA_HOME set to the JDK though (after fixing the above),  the WebLogic installer still complained that I was using a JRE and not a JDK.  To fix this I had to use the full path to the JDK java.exe when starting the installer, i.e.:

    C:\oracle-software\wls1212_V38518-01>"C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_79\bin\java" -jar wls_121200.jar

    Extracting files........

    Starting Oracle Universal Installer

    Success :-)
