Oracle Client installed but no ODBC

Hello,

I have oracle client 11.2.0.1.0 installed on a 64-bit windows 7 computer.  I need to connect to my oracle database from MS Visio.  Previously I had Visio 32-bit installed, but have since uninstalled and re-installed 64-bit.   I'm unable to see my database or create an ODBC to it.  I don't even have the option of the oracle driver in "ODBC Data Source Administrator".

I downloaded instantclient-odbc-win-x86-64-11.2.0.1.0.zip from oracle but it says I have to unzip it in the same directory as my instant client.   This is the path of where the instant client is but there are many folders and I'm not sure where I should unzip it?

C:\oracle\11gR2Client\product\11.2.0\client_1\

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Oracle ODBC in ODBC Instant Client package need some files from Oracle Instant Client Basic or Basic Lite. I hope you have downloaded x64 version of Instant Client Basic or Basic as well. Download and unzip it into same folder where you have unzipped x64 ODBC Instant Client if you have not done it yet. Instant Client downloads for Microsoft Windows (x64)

You should not unzip Instant Client into existing 11.2.0.1.0 Client home (i.e. C:\oracle\11gR2Client\product\11.2.0\client_1\).

May be you unzip Oracle Instant Client Basic, and ODBC packages in C:\oracle\11gR2Client\product\11.2.0\ directory.

After unzipping those files, make sure start command prompt with Administrator privilege and execute odbc_install.exe in C:\oracle\11gR2Client\product\11.2.0\instantclient_11_2\ to register the Oracle ODBC driver in the Instant Client HOME (instantclient_11_2). Later you have to create a DSN for the newly installed Oracle 11.2.0.1 x64 bit driver in ODBC data source administration console (odbcad32).

Thank you SDhamoth for the reply.

Will this effect my current client installation?

Thank you again.  I was pulled onto another project but I will test this very soon.

    Jerry,

No. It won't affect your other client installation.

    Thanks,

    Senthil
