jps
Error: Could not find or load main class sun.tools.jps.JpsYou haven't posted:
1. WHAT you did
2. HOW you did it
3. WHAT version of Java you 'think' you did it with
4. WHAT version of Java you REALLY did it with
You can't just say 'I did this, and I did that and it didn't work' - you have to SHOW US.
Otherwise people have to try to guess:
1. how you really installed Java 6
2. how many other versions of Java might already exist
3. what you environment variables for CLASSPATH and PATH are set to
For all we know you have Java versions present that don't even have that unsupported utility.
Which raises the question: if you are new to Java why are you trying to use an unsupported, deprecated utility anyway?

Take a look at this discussion thread: Error: Could not find or load main class com.sun.tools.javac.Main (Beginning Java forum at Coderanch)
It claims that such issues are either caused by incomplete installation or not setting classpath.
