    Hi Holger,

thanks for the link, much appreciated.

Is that document accessible from the release documentation and if so, where? I was looking for it and couldn't see it

    Thanks

edit : don't worry, just found the link to it in the fmw_12212_readme.htm of the download, I had been looking in the online release notes

    Hi,

    the documentation says :

    • This is a full installation with an out-of-place upgrade from previous releases. This does not update existing installations.

Is there any intention to provide an upgrade facility for those of us on 12.2.1.1?

    Thanks

    Hi Keyser.

Actually, there are upgrade facilities, as described here. But you still need to do an out-of-place upgrade.

    How I upgraded from 12.2.1.1 to 12.2.1.2:

    - Install WebLogic infrastructure (fmw_12.2.1.2.0_infrastructure_Disk1_1of1) in a NEW Oracle Home;

    - Install Oracle Forms and Reports (fmw_12.2.1.2.0_fr_win64_Disk1_1of1) on this new Oracle Home.

    - Copy the domain directory from 12.2.1.1 to the new 12.2.1.2 home.

    - Follow the steps described at https://docs.oracle.com/middleware/12212/formsandreports/install-fnr/GUID-20AC6348-AA11-4D36-A460-8C06A0218A66.htm#GUID-637EB7B3-B9B4-40A4-AFA6-ABF4385577AD (update domain schemas, reconfigure the WLS and upgrade configurations)

    - Update any configuration outside the domain directory (copy custom jar files, update extensions.jnlp and so forth).

It is very tedious task , and also takes more time than a fresh new installation.

And Windows registry may have extra Oracle Home key.

I fell at the final hurdle

We are upgrading from 12.2.1.1 to 12.2.1.2

I performed all the steps in the installation/upgrade guide with success up until the final step. I clicked upgrade and got a failure reported.

Has anyone experienced anything like the error below during their upgrade?

Does anyone know if the upgrade assistant is re-runnable?

    Thanks

Hi Holger, did you run a readiness report prior to the upgrade?

    [[email protected] bin]$ pwd

    /u01/app/oracle/product/12.2.1.2/oracle_common/upgrade/bin

[[email protected] bin]$ sh ua -readiness

now that you have a failed upgrade, you will need to restore your middleware environment from backup

you will also need to restore your repository database schemas from backup

and then you can run the readiness report

Once you have your readiness report, I would be interested to hear what the problem is as my problem is still ongoing with Oracle support

    Thanks

No I just started the upgrade to see what happens.

Maybe it was my database, a XE, which is not supported.

But I tried in my small VM, np production system. But I have my template where I xould run the report.

this is the advice I have had from Oracle support with regards to my problem (above) upgrading forms and reports from 12.2.1.1 to 12.2.1.2

Reports team has suggested to perform the below steps

    1) Backup reptools1 on 12.2.1.1 install

    2) Uninstall reports component

    >> This can be done using the wlst command invoked from $Oracle_Home\oracle_common\common\bin>wlst.cmd

and then running the below commands

    a) connect("weblogic","xxxxxx","hostname:7001")

    b) deleteReportsToolsInstance(instanceName='reptools1')

    3) Run the upgrade readiness check and confirm if its pointing to the same error. Upload the upgrade readiness check again to review the same.

    4) If the readiness check succeeds, then you can proceed with the upgrade and once the upgrade is complete, recreate the reptools1 component and copy the files from the backup.

so seemingly you can't upgrade reports from 12.2.1.1 to 12.2.1.2 without first uninstalling it and then reinstalling it

Oracle support have reproduced the problem, agreed that it is an issue and opened a bug for it :

Bug 25097886 : UPGRADE TO 12.2.1.2 FROM 12.2.1.1 FAILS FOR OHS IF REPORTSTOOL IS CONFIGURED

Oh und what solution do they propose ?

Not doing another full installation with new domain creation or ? Then direct upgrading is not an option :-(

I haven't tried it, but this is their workaround

    Workaround

    ==========

    1) delete the reportsInstance using WLST command

    deleteReportsToolsInstance(instanceName='reptools1')

    2) Then run UA -readiness check and it succeeds

the advice from the reports team in the SR that I raised was to delete the reportstoolsinstance, perform the upgrade and then install the reportstoolsinstance again

what concerns me the most is that no-one at Oracle has tested the upgrade process with a reportstoolinstance in place, or if they did, they knowingly let it go out the door with it not working and didn't tell us
