I am following this tutorial:https://gemsofprogramming.wordpress.com/2013/09/19/installing-oracle-12c-on-ubuntu-12-04-64-bit-a-hard-journey-but-its-w…

Someone know how to help?

My advice: don't try to shoehorn Oracle on to an unsupported OS.

I am getting the following error on Ubuntu 14.04 while installing Oracle 12.2:

And the obvious question is: WHY?

Why would you intentionally subject yourself to trying to deal with issues you are guaranteed to encounter installing to an unsupported platform?

If you just want Oracle on that platform as a sandbox then:

    1. download Oracle's FREE Virtualbox software

    2. download Oracle's FREE VM dev platform

You won't have ANY of those Ubuntu issues and the Oracle configuration will already be done for you by the experts.

Oracle VM VirtualBox - Downloads | Oracle Technology Network | Oracle

That page shows Oracle makes that available for Ubuntu 14.04.

Pre-Built Developer VMs for Oracle VM VirtualBox | Oracle Technology Network

That page shows the various VMs available. You can expect Oracle to replace the 12.1 version with the 12.2 release soon.

Why is it "not an option"?  It's obviously for your personal use/education.  Why are you not free to do it the correct way?

Really? You "have to" install Oracle on an unsupported operating system? Why?

The author of the document you linked even says:

The solution provided can make a Linux Admin cringe, and if not landing one in a grave, at least make one turn itself over in his/her grave.

    Good luck.

    Open file /u01/app/oracle/product/12.2.0/dbhome_1/plsql/lib/env_plsql.mk

    Find:

    LDFLAGS=-o [email protected] $(LDOBJSZ) $(LDPLATFORMFLAGS) $(LDPATHFLAG)$(PRODLIBHOME) $(LDPATHFLAG)$(LIBHOME) $(LDSTUBLIBS)

    Modify to:

    LDFLAGS=-o [email protected] $(LDOBJSZ) $(LDPLATFORMFLAGS) $(LDPATHFLAG)$(PRODLIBHOME) $(LDPATHFLAG)$(LIBHOME) -Wl,--no-as-needed $(LDSTUBLIBS)

Push “Retry” button in installation window

Did you notice you are replying to a 3-month-old thread?

And just to help the OP drive over a cliff?

When something like this happens, I'm always curious about what the responder was doing to even stumble across such an archaeological artifact in the first place.

    A few things...

For starters, start your own thread rather than tacking on to an old thread.

Secondly, did you read this thread? It clearly states that Ubuntu is not a certified OS for Oracle. Use a certified OS like Oracle Linux. They cost the same.

    Cheers,
    Brian

    1. Ubuntu is not a proper OS for Oracle DBMS installation. Yes, it is possible to install (did it several times for fun). But definitely not for studying. Please install OL 6 or 7. They are free.

    2. 2 GB RAM looks too small for me for comfortable work. Or you should use minimal Linux installation.

    3. And final. What exact help are you looking for?

    Hi,

In addition to what has been posted, having in mind that Ubuntu is not a suppoted OS, why do you need this version of Linux?

You could use CentOS instead, this is free, it is Red Hat based.

    Kind Regards

Just like Ubuntu, CentOS is not certified for Oracle databases. Instead, use Oracle Linux. It is free just like Ubuntu and CentOS. And like CentOS, it is Red Hat based.

    Cheers,
    Brian

A great advantage of utilizing Oracle Linux, is the pre-install rpm to prepare the system for an Oracle Database Installation (sets the required kernel parameters and ensures all required packages are installed on the system).
