Hello everyone,

I'm just starting out programming in Java - but I have a problem downloading the SE platform to my pc running on Windows 7.

Everything seems to proceed OK - it downloads and comes up with '9.0.1 successfully installed', but I can't find a way to run it. There is a 'configure Java' icon, but that does nothing.

Can someone help? What am I missing here?

Thanks in advance!

What you describe doesn't sound like any download problem - it sounds like the download went just fine.

I suggest you go through The Java Tutorials.

There are trails that show you how to get started using Java.

    https://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/getStarted/cupojava/index.html

Everything seems to proceed OK - it downloads and comes up with '9.0.1 successfully installed', but I can't find a way to run it.

    The two 'basic' components are:

    1. javac - the java compiler - you use it to compile Java source code

    2. java - the java executable - you run it like any other executable on your machine

The getting started tutorial shows how to use them. Or you can find other tutorials and books on the web.
