Scan documents from Oracle Forms 12c

Hello friends, I need to interact with the scanner installed on the client machine from a form with oracle forms 12c. I need to send from the form to scan a document and save the captured image in the database. It is possible to do this from oracle forms. Please help with your comments on the possibilities I have to meet the objective.

You might want to look at Oracle Webcenter. I never used it, but it is something we explored at one time.

You will need to create a Java Bean that calls the scanner directly or an intermediate.  There are several examples of communicating with Twain drivers (scanners) on the internet.  My recommendation is that you start on the Java side.  Get a working example in Java before you attempt to make it work with Forms.  Once your Java code seems to work then make the necessary changes to convert it to a Forms Java Bean.

You have at least two possible ways of doing this.  You can either attempt to scan the image directly into the form OR scan the image to the file system and use something like WebUtil to read the image file into a Forms image item.  The latter likely will be the easiest approach (in my opinion).

Hello,

We used scan the image to the file system and used WebUtil to read the image file into a Forms image item for a years in Oracle Forms11g . However, when we recently upgraded our forms to 12.2.1.4 we got an error "WUT-129 [WEBUTIL_FILE_TRANSFER.UploadInt] ??? ??? ?? ????? ??? ?????? D:\WORKAREA\0009000046_002.JPG" . It looks like Forms 12c is not communicating well with Twain drivers and jumped to read the file from temp area before it is created. Any thought about what could be the reason of that ?
