JWS is planned to continue being supported in the next major release, but only when using Java 8. That said, we are still trying to understand if it is technically possible to support Java 8 at all. By continuing to provide Java 8 support it means some features/functionality/compatibility may need to be excluded.
Considering the use of FSAL (Forms Standalone Launcher) is a good idea even if only a backup plan for you. Many valuable features are planned for it, so starting to use it now might set the stage for you and your users to become accustom to it. Likely with each of the coming releases, improvements in FSAL usability are planned. Therefore, you may find that FSAL starts to behavior much like JWS in the future, albeit not exactly the same.
Stay tuned for more updates....
