How to use conditional color formatting for Interactive Grid?

I have a page that needs to use the master detail setup & these require the use of the Interactive Grid report types. I also have the need to be able to use conditional color formatting for specific columns.

Many of the solutions for color formatting say to use 'HTML Expression' under Column Formatting. This does not exist for Interactive Grid reports.

Javascript is also not working because of a frustrating 'Forbidden' error of unknown cause.

Is there another means to conditionally color columns within an interactive grid report?

I am working within Apex 20.1.

    What am I doing wrong?

In common with other report-like components introduced in APEX 5.x, column value references in interactive grids use the "standard" &COL_ALIAS. substitution string syntax instead of the #COL_ALIAS# form used in classic and interactive reports:

    <span style="color:&FAC_FORMATTING.;font-weight:bold;">&FAC_ALL_COMP.</span>

All substitution string references must be in upper case.
