It was desupported quite some time ago because it was mostly ineffective. You cannot "convert" from technology to technology. You must rewrite from scratch in most cases.

Would you mind me asking why you are trying to convert to Apex rather than remaining with Oracle Forms?

    Hi Michael,

    Morning

Firstly thanks for reviewing my question and acknowledging ...

it seems client/customer looking for options to adopt latest technology and be in the pathway towards oracle forms modernization journey (looking towards Low Code application development platforms like APEX tending to build scalable, enterprise apps)

Trying to eliminate/reduce the enormous complexities of developing and deploying enterprise apps

    with regards

    Hi Holger,

Morning , would it be possible to explain/give idea as to how the Oracle Forms components like - Data Blocks, Triggers, Lov's , Canvas , Menu's etc would get imported within Oracle Apex so that when we are using App Builder to create web forms from scratch, the Apex developer could have an idea/know as to which all functionalities/components need to be taken care of during design activity..

I suppose earlier these Oracle forms components could be imported into a project using Oracle Forms Migration..

How do proceed further with comparing the Oracle forms components vis a vis which all types of pages/functionalities would have to be build within APEX

    with kind regards

There are so many ways to improve Forms applications compared to how many were originally designed decades ago. The problem is that most people in the situation are unaware how and believe a magic wand will transform them to something different.

Regarding "low code"; Apex is no more low code than Forms. In fact, Apex apps typically will require as much or more code to accomplish what Forms does or can do.

About the only significant limitation Forms has over newer technologies is that it cannot be run on mobile devices. But even that can be overcome with something like a third party solution (e.g. AuraPlayer @Mia_Urman )

Forms allows you to do so many things that cannot be done in web app technologies. For example, its ability to be extendable with Java or C. With a web app you are limited to the boundaries of the browser window. With Forms, your app can reach out to the user machine and even the server and interact with other software and hardware. Doing that with other technologies is often requires complex and substantial coding.

In the coming versions of Forms, we plan to offer functionality that may have seemed impossible years ago. Stay tuned...

As Michael said: you cannot convert a Forms applications into an APEX app without recreating it.

Some companies say that they can but the code that comes out is horror. and why whould you do that?

think aboutyou invests that are in the Forms application and so on.
