Configuring OHW with Tomcat and Apache

Hi,

We have tried out OHW with the OC4J and Jakarta-Tomcat-3.2.2. But, with the normal set of configurations that are done to make Apache HTTP server work with the servlet engine of Jakarta-Tomcat-3.2.2, the OHW pages are not shown. What are the other configurations that are to be done on the Apache, Tomcat configuration files, so that the help pages can be invoked over the Apache HTTP server(i.e, the http://machine_name:8080/ohw/help/.. to be invoked with http://machine_name/ohw/help/.. HTTP server's port being 80)..

Thank you,
Ranjith..

    Ranjith,

    A couple questions:

Did OHW work via this link 'http://machine_name:8080/ohw/help/'?

Also, were you able to run any of the Tomcat servlet examples? In my Tomcat (the oldest I had handy was 3.3), you could click on 'Servlet Examples' from http://localhost:8080 or http://machine_name:8080. Once we know whether any servlet works with your configuration (more or less OHW), then we can take things from there.

    Cheers,

    Craig.

    Hi,

Thank you for the reply. The answers for the questions are:
    1. OHW works with 'http://machine_name:8080/ohw/help/' link. You can give the rest of the query-string parameters as in the normal way. No special settings are done in Tomcat. Just followed the instructions for installing OHW in Tomcat.
    2. Tomcat sevlet exmples could be run as it normally is done. We are using Tomcat-3.2.2.
Could you please help us with the Apache-Tomcat configuration for Oracle Help for Web..

    Thank you,
    Regards
    Ranjith..

    Ranjith,

It isn't clear why OHW is not running in you configuration, by all rights it should be. We know OHW runs fine with Apache and OC4J or JServ (if properly configured). Here are some more questions that might help us.

    1) What platform is your Apache/Tomcat configuration -- Windows? Solaris? Some other platform (if so what)?
    2) What version of Apache are you using?
    3) What do the servlet error log or Apache error logs show?
    4) What displays when trying to access http://machine_name/ohw/help/..?

In the meantime, we are trying to set up and environment here to see if we encounter any conflicts with Apache, Tomcat 3.2.2, and OHW.

    Thanks,

    Craig.

    Hi,

Are the configuration settings we are using not correct. We are using the Oracle9iAS(not release 2)Apache HTTP server. Would there be some conflict with JServ servlet engine that is being used by the Oracle9iAS. But, we tried on a different setting with only the Apache with Tomcat..There too, similar problem was found..Could something be done in the configuration settings..

    Thank you,
    Ranjith..

    Ranjinth,

Your problem is definitely a configuration problem. It is still not clear exactly what part of you configuration is causing your errors though. If you'd like to tackle this, your Apache/Tomcat configuration is the right place to start. Have you already looked at the following link for setting up Apache and Tomcat?
    http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-3.2-doc/tomcat-apache-howto.html

We are still hoping to get some time to set up Apache and Tomcat ourselves in hopes of determining a working configuration. However, we verified our OHW servlet works with Tomcat standalone, Apache JServ, OC4J, etc., so this kind of investigation is bit outside the scope of work for our group. Just the same, should I get a chance to look into further, I'll let you know my findings. Thanks for your patience.

    Cheers,

    Hi,
Thank you very much, sir..With the default Tomcat-Apache configuration, though the normal servlet pages are working with Apache using AJPv12,AJPv13, we might have missed out something with other set of configurations in the server.xmls or .confs..As you suggested, we'll go through the Apache-Tomcat documentation and try further..Thank you again..
