Unset the NLS_LANG environment variable if it's set. Also check the registry (if you're on windows) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE.

Hi, the second error ORA-12705 indicated something is wrong with the NLS parameter settings on the machine you try the connection with.
Did you check the NLS parameters unter tools->preferences->database->NLS-Parameters?
Can you connect with SQLDeveloper?

Hi Timo,
That is only available with JDev 11 - not 10

It appears that the information you gave me will be helpful but remember that i am new to this
could you give me some guidance on unsetting the nls_lang parameter
thanks

Hi,
to unset an environment variabel, right click on my Computer->preferences->more preferences and click the environment variables button. Check if you find the NLS_LANGUAGE parameter and remove it.

many thanks
