Has anyone found a workaround (e.g., mesa) for OpenGL on Solaris/x86?

I'm developing Java 3D apps on Solaris/Sparc that need to run on Solaris/x86 as well. Java 3D requires OpenGL which I have on the Sparc but which is not available (Sun has no plans on supporting it) on the x86. Has anyone found a workaround for this problem? I guess mesa might be a reasonable substitute for OpenGL. I haven't tried to compile it on Solaris/x86 so I don't know if it will work. Before I take the time to try it I thought I might save some time by posting this topic. HELP!

thanks
