Permissions required for an applet

Hello everybody,
I have an applet that communicates with a Chat server over the internet. It must also allow a user to save the transcript of the chat in the home directory of the user's client machine.
I haven't implemented the filesaving yet, but I am unable to access the chat server over the internet due to an AccessControlException.
What I should do to allow my applet to perform it's required behaviour properly. I am new to the working of policytool and keystore.
Regards,
Arun Jayaprakash.

hello,
I am not getting how come your applet is unable to communicate with the chat server?
Have you implemented the chat server in java?
will like to get details abt the same.

The chat server is a simple Java console program that listens on port 8000. The applet does not use any Swing package.
I have created 3 classes - Applet class for UI and two communication layer classes for sending and receiving.
I am able to connect to the chat server if the applet is also run on the same machine (which it should). How do I overcome security restrictions so that I can connect to the server from any other machine?
Regards,
Arun. -
could you please give me the source code? thanks a lot...
