Cannot create an entity on the ERD diagram (developer suite 10g)

626749Mar 9 2008 — edited Nov 21 2008
I managed to create a repository and generate an ERD diagram in it. The problem is when I drag the entity icon from the tool bar to the diagram a screen called 'Create Entity' appears. I put in the details(i.e. Name,ShortName and Plural) and then press ok. On pressing ok nothing happens, the screen remains there and I have to press cancel to get ou of the screen. I've looked at the designer log and the following line is repeated many time when I press ok:

awe61 File 'cwcclipm.cpp' at line:855 -CODE REACHED-

Please can somebody help me in this matter. I've already un-installed and re-installed it 3 times but the problem still persists. I've also installed on another PC with the same proble appearing again.

Do I've my downloaded installation file corrupted or not the right one?

I already spend about a week going round this problem to no avail.

Thanks

First thing to do is check everything is installed correctly.

In the Repository Administration Utility (RAU) use the 'view objects' to check the status of all the installed components, and make sure none are missing, invalid or disabled. Also, use the 'Check Requirements' to ensure all necessary requirements are in place.

Also confirm if you can create an entity via the Repository Object Navigator (RON).
If you can create entities test if you can then include them into your diagram.

If that doesn't help...
Confirm the details and versions of the software you're using, i.e.
The full version of Designer installed?
The full details of the PC, operating system, etc. you have it installed on?
The full Oracle Database version and OS the Repository is installed on?

I've checked the repository through check requirements and vew objects and everything is in place.

I was able to add an entity using RON, yet I couldn't included in the diagram. OK button remained disbled even when I select the workarea were the entity was created. Further to this I noticed that on selecting a folder, it becomes also disbled.

The database details are as follows:
Type: Oracle Enteprise Manager 10g
Version: 10.2.0.1

The designer details are as follows:
Version: 10.1.2.0.2
Configuration: 4.0.12.97.6
Build: 10.1.2.6.18

PC details are as follows:
OS: Win XP Professional 2002 SP2
CPU:mobile AMD Athlon(tm)XP-M 2600+
RAM: 480MB,1.67GHz

Thanks alot for your help.

If you can create a Service Request I can connect to you and look at your instalation.

In the RAU (log on as repos owner) - View Objects - Select All Objects on the left
just above there will apear a number. The number should be 5707 or 5711. Which is it?

After verifying the number changed the drop down box from All to Invalid, missing, and disabeled. These should be 0.
626749
The number shown is 5711.

The number changed to 0 for all three states(invalid, missing and disabled).

Regarding the service request I on't know what is it. How should I create it?

Thanks alot for your help.

Log into Metalink - Service Request tab and create it there.

To create a service account I need a CSI identifier. I'm a university student and don't have any customer account with oracle.

You don't appear to have much RAM at only 480MB<br>
The minimum requirements discussed are in the
Oracle Developer Suite Installation Guide
<br>
Also ensure all the server requirements and minimum memory and parameter settings have been met.
<br>
You should test this as the Repostory Owner, if you haven't been doing so already.<br>
Use an 'Applications Systems' container, rather than 'Folders'<br>
Check the 'View Access Rights' on the container.<br>
Confirm the user has sufficient privileges.<br>
You also didn't say whether RAU 'Check Requirements' has all necessary requirements are in place.

I've installed oracle designer on a PC having the 2GB RAM and is giving the same problem. Yet this time on updating the workarea it is saying either that I don't have UPDATE or COMPILE specification priveleges on this work area. Do you know from where I can view and set the required priveleges for a user to gain access to a work area.

Thanks alot for your help.

See Designer help topic:
'Granting or revoking access to workareas, containers and configurations'

In the RON, right click on the workarea and from the context menu see:
'View Access Rights' and 'Grant Access Rights'

Also accessible via RON menu: File > Access Rights

Thanks it worked.

Actually there were two problems, PC was low on virtual memory and usere didn't have access rights to the GLOBAL SHARED WORKAREA.

Thanks alot for you help.

I am facing the same problem with oracle designer10g.
I checked everything.
PC virtual memory is high and usere have access rights to the GLOBAL SHARED WORKAREA.
Check requirement in RAU is done.No problems in ROn also.
I want through all the solutions given.will you help where went wrong.

I had the same problem here and was unable to create an entity into an erd.
The OK button would not react.

Try adding the enviroment variable NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8 or whatever languange you have set when you created the repository database.

Well I have the same issue as related though out this thread. I too cannot get the create entity function to do anything this I am force to cancel the window.

I have walked threw all the referent tests listed and have come up with all the correct responses. Not, sure where I need to set the Language option within the repository but every thing checks out buy the numbers.

If there is an oracle rep. still working on these problems, I am still hoping to see a solution. But, at least I can start learning on a few things with designer.

I can always use DBDesigner4 to mock up a simple ERD but, it will not work for a object relational database.
So, I guess I'll open up good old notepad and build this from a sql. No big deal but I was wanting to play with a graphical editor and work out the UML and all that sorta stuff.
